15 January 2018 – Unfortunately, Hopping Mad is on hiatus until (probably) 12 February. Will and I had intended to come back with a show today and then I was leaving to travel on business for the rest of the month while Will held down the fort. At least, that was the plan. The good news is that Will’s wife got a terrific new job so she and Will are moving. Will, who has a full-time job in journalism, is busy trying to pack, move and unpack in their new home so extra time to prep for the show is more than he can take on. I, on the other paw, have had a simply horrible time since I last spoke with you all. We had a death in the family in December, losing our beautiful bunny, Beatrix (on the left above), in a sudden and entirely unexpected way. Then, my husband and I braved a snowstorm this past week to take Bunny Chesney (on the right above) to a specialist only to find that he is in congestive heart failure and, though we are trying everything, the prognosis is extremely grave. So, basically, I’m miserable…and trying to both prepare for an important business trip while also closing the books for my company for the year.
So – things may fall together and we may be able to come back the week before but we don’t want to over-promise. We have some incredible interviews lined-up and I have some really interesting international topics prepped so good things are on the way. We will miss you all and look forward to being back just as soon as possible. Many Carrots! – Arliss
25 September 2017 – In the show this week Arliss interviews Zach Carter and I discuss both the NFL and the German election.
Yesterday was a tough day for German Democracy, the Far-Right took third place in the German election entitling them to become the third largest political party in the Bundestag. What’s particularly worrying is the tough path that Merkel now has in order to form a government due to fractures in the left wing SDP and the poor coalition options. These conditions include trying to get the Greens to work the CDU and the FDP. The three parties that agree on very little.
We’re also poadcasting the first of several interviews which Arliss made with folks at the MMT conference. This week with Zach Carter, whom we like to quote here at Hopping Mad. Their wide ranging discussion touched on a number of economic issues, but also the way that certain conservatives tend to treat politics like sports.
We’ll have another heavy hitting interview for you next week. – Will
21 August 2017 – We weren’t expecting what happened in Charlottesville, just over a week ago, but by the time events unfolded last week’s show had already been recorded as had a portion of the current show.
But with the terrorist attack that happened quite close to where I live, I thought a deep dive into the thread far-right terrorism represents was important. Joel and I discussed recent events, a brief history of far-right terrorism in the US both recent and in the past, and also, we discussed what can be done about the problem.
Arliss is away this week on business, and will be gone next week as well but after that we’ll be back to our usual schedule. – Will
